Tourism College Bad Gleichenberg Up Close at the Champions League Round of 16
When theory meets real emotion and everyday school life steps onto the grand stage of international football: students of the Tourism Schools Bad Gleichenberg didn’t just watch the Champions League Round of 16 – they were right there in the middle of it all. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the atmosphere of a major international sporting event up close and get a behind-the-scenes look at the organization of such a spectacle.
At the Tourism Schools Bad Gleichenberg, great emphasis is placed on the ideal blend of theory and practice. In addition to training in areas such as food & beverage, concierge services, and travel agency management, students gain valuable hands-on experience at in-house events, internships, and through participation in major public events. Thanks to a long-standing collaboration with a renowned event caterer, administrator Erich Pölzl has been accompanying students to FC Bayern Munich events for over ten years. Highlights have included two championship celebrations and the unforgettable Champions League Final 2022 in Paris.
Most recently, students supported the Champions League Round of 16 match between Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, working in the exclusive Players’ Lounge – where players’ families watched the game – as well as in the Super VIP area, event boxes, and luxury suites.
After three and a half years at Tourismusschulen Bad Gleichenberg, she already has an impressive résumé of hands-on experiences, including internships at Schloss Kornberg, the Naturhotel Forsthofgut, and the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel in Bahrain. “Working at the Champions League Round of 16 in Munich was something truly special. The organization, the coordination, and the unforgettable atmosphere in the stadium were absolutely unique,” Baumgartner shared. Tourism student Marissa Baumgartner
